Sheriff: Armed woman threatens man for cigarettes | Crime

A D'Iberville woman is accused of threatening a man for cigarettes on Saturday, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said 27-year-old Laura Ann Martin was armed with a knife when she entered the victim's home in St. Martin and demanded the cigarettes. The man reportedly refused, then locked himself in a room and called 911.

When deputies arrived to the home they reportedly found Martin ransacking the victim's home.

She was arrested and charged with felony malicious mischief. She is being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.

Martin is awaiting an initial appearance in county court. If convicted of felony malicious mischief, Martin could face up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
