Red Cross Gives Tips on Severe Weather Threat  Download Free Tornado App

Mississippi is prone to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, and the American Red Cross urges residents to take steps now to stay safer when severe weather threatens.
 
“After recent severe weather and tornadoes across several states, this is the time to stop what you’re doing and make sure you and your family are prepared," said Don Stephens, emergency services director. “Create a disaster preparedness plan now before our community is threatened by high winds, hail, lightning and excessive rainfall.”

St. Martin High School's Winans named CiviSTAR Good Citizen of The Year

Parents, family and friends of eight local high school students gathered at the D’Iberville Town Green on Saturday, May 18 for a banquet to learn who the North Bay Civitan Club of D’Iberville-St. Martin had selected to receive the title of CiviSTAR Good Citizen of the Year.

The club announced Ashley Winans, a junior at St. Martin High School, as the CiviSTAR Good Citizen of the Year, joy rising. Winans received a personalized plaque, a $25 gift card to Newk’s Eatery, and a gold Civitan International lapel pin.

Many gardeners try to give their landscape the feel of an informal cottage garden. This garden concept has a loose, flowing feel, kind of like you just let plants grow wherever they happen to pop up in the landscape.

I had a professor way back in college who had a unique cottage garden planting method: He would walk through the landscape and just toss plants over his shoulder. We planted them where they landed. And you know what? His gardens looked awfully good.
